nature of human fetishismRecently I noticed a rising amount of people pointing out other forms of bdsm, and how I handle the topic as if the approach I speak of is the only one
So I may as well clarify some things. Yes, I am aware of many other forms of bdsm, starting from self bondage to 24/7 bondage to real hardcore sadism play...for those that roll like that yknow
So... why don't I get into all of those?
Well it is simple really, a few simple reasons
1 if I went into those I would inevitably be asked why I don't cover inflation as linked to bondage... because... it is. Or tickling bondage or permanent bondage....
2because I cover the balanced peoples bondage
3because to competently write about some of that stuff, I would have to experience it, and as wide as my range of experience is.... and make no mistake ...iiiits wide. I do draw lines at some points
See, here is the thing, bdsm is a part of my life...BUT!!!! It does not constitute all of my life. This is what I mean by

Introduction
Over the years I have produced a range of tutorials on artistic use of the computer. Most of them concerns rather general concepts and can hopefully give something regardless of which program you are using or even be of some interest for traditional, non-digital artists. That said, to get the most out of these you should know that I mainly use the open-source image manipulation program GIMP. I also work a lot with the painter program MyPaint. Q. What kind of tools do you use to draw?
A. It changes every now and then. Lately, I've been using a regular mech pencil with 0.5 HB lead.
Kneded eraser to clean my lines. Whatever hard eraser to really erase when needed.
For the inks I use mostly a Windsor&Newton (series 7, size 000) brush, the rechargeable Kuretake brush pen for thicker (and awesome) lines and whatever old brush for cool textures.
I'm still trying to find the perfect white ink/acrylic.
And I use Micron pens for straight lines.
And whatever black ink. Right now, Dr. Ph. Martin's Black Star.

I won't post the whole thing here, but the issue can be summed up with this quote from the above article: "The truth is that games are sexist in their depiction of women to a depressing degree. I raised the point on a press trip dinner last year: how many female characters can you think of that aren't obviously designed to be sexually attractive to men? Apart from Shepard, no one around the table could suggest a single one."
I've made my thoughts on this issue very clear before, and taken some flak along the way for it - but it has got to stop. Is there anything wrong with wanting to make characters look attractive? Of course not. But the ridiculous degree to which female characters are sexualised is not going away - and if anything - getting worse. Take Ashley Williams for example - in ME1 she was a tough as nails soldier - the o

starting a pagei did a panel at wondercon over the weekend about "Drawing Comics" and one of the questions from the audience was " how do you over the fear ( or anxiety) of starting a page and taking it to finish from blank. I remember answering something like " having a deadline makes you have to, also it being your job, bills, and such"- something like that. Although half jokingly, those things are definitely true. But i think maybe they wanted a more creative response.
in any case, one way is to learn about your characters on the page, understand them, understand their surroundings, and then connect the two. having a good understanding of where your characters are positioned in their setting will definitely makes it easier to move then around and tell a story.
anyway, just figured i'd put that out there.

Im becoming a canvas pilotLately my back hurts, since ive changed my computer to another desk, because i had my tablet cintiq on the drawing board, and my feet had a lot of pain. For those that have a cintiq like mine, the old version 21ux will know that its really painful to draw in it, i mean not to draw, i mean to click the buttons, so you have to twist your arm just to pressed them down.
So decided to search for a Nostromo controller, because everyone talks magical things about it.
Then the horrorrrrrrrr, the horrorrrrr, its for right handed, because you can only place your left hand in it. So its not left hand friendly if you use it for your pen.
Still wanted to get it, a friend told me that saw one in an office depot, so i went there.
And nothing.
They only have this flight simulator controller. and i left it there. Next day my back was still with pain and i said what the hell lets get that controller, only cost 20 bucks, what can i lose?.

difference between porn and erotica

its simple ladies and gentlemen, erotica  arouses the smartest, most complex part of you, your mind... also known as the greatest erogenous zone

porn arouses only the simplest part of you

this is one of those reasons why i love bdsm ,  you can give people all the visual clues, and let their mind fill in the blanks, call it visual problem solving...thats why  will not get to see any  explicit  stuff in my strips. oh stuff of explicit nature happens... but flat our showing it is just about the lazyest way to approach it. and completely kills the imaginative aspect that it so wonderfully linked to erotic genre

of course most of you at this point are realising the simple fact that erotic aspect is merely one aspect of this series... just like sexuality is merely one aspect of the human experience.

                                             speaking of human experience....

it is actually kinda hilarious.. i started the damn series as just  a series of hot fetish pictures, and then i realised there is stuff these characters needed to say.. and apparently they do have some curious insight on the nature of human relationship, value of trust and the amount to which we reveal our true nature to our significant others.

we are all to some extent pervy, we have secret dreams and desires that we hide even from those we profess to love and trust.  we spend time in relationships without ever letting that other person truly  get to know us.

i for one can tell you this, sharing your deeply seeded secret desires  will bring you to a level of intimacy undreamed of. other extreme is that the person will realise your desires are too different. so why risk it?

it is in the human nature to crave, to crave what we want and supress means to obsess about it

we find a way to satisfy our desires...so....sooner or later we place our relationships on the scale and match it to our desires...

and unfortunately, often the desire will outweigh the rational mind and the emotional heart..
and then we fuck up ...

buut.. if you  share your pervyness...  you will have the level of trust and a deeper connection than you would ever have dreamed of... bound by love.. any your own little private world of shared secrets...

so..yknow...ask yourseld this,  how much do i trust the person im with?
do i trust that person enough to truly share what i consider the worst of me?
if you do.. welcome to the world of deeper understanding, private smiles  whose meaning only you will know,  and intimacy  undreamed of..

yeaaah... ive been doing my standard work so my brain is cooking XD

oh.. tho my theory on porn and erotica has its massive holes, dont get me wrong, for instance, couldnt erotica simply be  considered softcore porn... hmmmm, ah the joys of life.. where you get to think on the most irrelevant nonsense for hours XD

Reading your journal makes me realize that there are a lot of shades of grey. I am happy that you acknowledge that there are things that should be appreciated with the complex mind. Personally I don't believe that all nudity is associated with porn. It is questionable but I like your take on it.
I admire your work, even if it did start off as some simply explicit strips.

I agree with you about that entire part on relationships. Actually, since I've started reading these comics a few months ago, I've started learning things about me that I didn't even admit to myself, let alone my fiance. To call my him, "an understanding man" would be a great understatement, especially after all of this.
When I first started reading your comics, I was of course initially drawn to it's visual style and the BDSM theme. But after I started getting attached to the story, I couldn't help but show it to my fiance. He liked it, but couldn't help but notice that pretty much all of it is centered around the three girls, so needless to say without going into a whole lot of detail, he started asking me some questions. He was very understanding about it all, but there were some fights because they were things I wasn't ready to say aloud. But after all was laid out in front of us both, he got to admit things, I've admitted things, and now we're closer than ever. Due to no small part by you.
So, long story short, thank you Shiniez for indirectly helping my relationship. Left to our own devices, it probably would have taken us years to get to this point.

"porn" and "erotica" are just words that are used to describe broad classes of material. Thus, any difference between them has to come from (and be part of) the definition. There isn't some kind of natural law that defines and divides them; it's a purely human construct. Which means that, since there's no objective difference, and no solid completely accepted definitions, people will always disagree to some degree. In other words, "who cares?"

My favorite answer to this non-dilemma is:
- "erotica" is artwork that turns me on because I like it
- "porn" is artwork that turns me on and I masturbate to it
- "obscenity" is artwork that doesn't turn me on, that someone else masturbates to
